Vertex Festival 2017 Canceled, But Hope Remains for 2018 Return: Report

on

Throwing a music festival is harder than you think. Not only do you have to produce the event, build stages, book awesome acts, sell tickets, and provide quality space for great vendors, you’ve also got to cultivate a positive relationship with the community that hosts you on both a personal and civil government level.

According to a Denver Post report, Vertex Festival in Buena Vista, Colo., has not quite reached an equilibrium on all fronts. Madison House Presents, the same people behind Electric Forest in Michigan, has announced its latest festival will not return for a second installment in 2017, due to an inability to secure a three-year permit with the Chaffee County Commissioners in enough time to make worthwhile planning possible.

Vertex Festival astounded critics and fans with its August 2016 debut which drew about 8,000 fans to hear headlining performances from Alabama Shakes, Odesza, Anderson . Paak, and more. The festival was a success, though it also drew the ire of neighboring residents who complained of wall-shaking bass and inebriated attendees.

Despite these complaints, the Denver Post reports that talks with Madison House Presents and Chaffee County Commissioners have been “healthy,” and things look positive for a 2018 Vertex Fest return. The suspension is more a move by Madison House to ensure the highest-quality event rather than rush a sophomore effort as permits are granted.

Billboard Dance has reached out to Madison House Presents for comment and will continue to follow the story as it updates.
